History Of Metal

The History of Metal Music is deeply rooted in the formation of such influential bands as Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin in the 1960s. Their sound was a blend of classic rock and roll and the blues. The heavier sound soon began evolving in the United States as well with the formation of such acts as Kiss and Alice Cooper. When disco music became popular in the late 1970s, many thought heavy metal was now history. That was simply not to be with emerging punk rock acts such as the Sex Pistols influencing young bands just as much as the original masters of the genre.

Again, England was the source of this new age of heavy metal music as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest among others reviving the entire genre with a faster, darker sound than had been heard before. Heavy Metal continued to be popular throughout the 1980s, but began to decline in the early 1990s. The blending of rap and heavy metal resulted in yet another rise in popularity in the genre and it has not been out of the spotlight since.

In the History of Metal Music, there have been many sub-genres including Thrash Metal, popularized by such bands as Metallica, Slayer and Megadeth. Nu metal emerged in the later 1990s and was popular until the mid-2000s. Recently, the History of Metal Music has now come full circle with the resurgence of both traditional and thrash metal as new genres such as djent are popular as well.
