R & B or rhythm and blues music first became known in the 1950’s. It began in the northern part of America like Chicago. Before long, other cities had caught the R&B fever. R&B is now considered one of the most influential music in the 20th century. This kind of music is typically associated with black pop. R&B later evolved into rock and roll.

The soul music of R&B has its roots on gospel music. The gospel mixes in Memphis is one example of soul music that influence the development of R&B music. R&B music is known for its combined jazz and blues style. This music style became widely accepted in the 1980’s after the fad for disco music died down.

The R&B soul music is known to stir passion in listeners. Popular R&B artist Aretha Franklin embodies the passion in R&B music. She has 20 R&B songs that ranked number one in the music hit list. Ms. Franklin is probably the best known R&B singer in our times.

Another popular R&B artist is Michael Jackson. When the disco era ended in 1979, the music industry found sobriety in R&B music. The R&B music helped people that time to re-discover their soulful roots. It was Michael Jackson’s album “Off the Wall” that turned R&B into mainstream by making it more pop music friendly.

R&B is predominantly a black pop song that helps inject classic soul into music. R&B music is at present integrated with other music styles such as rap and pop to generate more followers.
